THE CRAINIUM “NO, NO, NO” (1998)
originally recorded by Yoko Ono (Season of Glass, 1981)
cover version appears on The Crainium EP (Slowdime, 1998)
No introduction needed for Ms. Ono, a SECOND WAVE idol.
The Crainium, somehow magically overlooked and underrated, were a 4-piece from Washington, DC, active in the late 90s. They are probably best known for their split 45 with The Make-Up (and subsequent tour, one show which I had the pleasure of seeing as a curfewed teenager at the Cooler in New York), and their later side projects, most notably Gang Gang Dance. Other post-Crainium projects include Legends, Meltdown, and Centuries. Their sole full-length A New Music for A New Kitchen is still as brilliant as the day it was pressed.
